Well, what a whirlwind it has been this Fall. We wound up our last milking classes, had 3 terrific workshops, a great Halloween event (kudos to everyone who showed up and enjoyed in SPITE of the weather…), a crazy, wonderful adventure taking the goats to the Royal Winter Fair to set a world record for most people in a Goat Yoga class (200 people with 22 of our goats).
A few weeks ago we sent off our last goat babies….though they are never really gone, they are just living in a new home….. Most of the new owners are great about staying in touch to let us know how the ‘kids’ are doing. We love hearing about their adventures and most particularly the joy these little things bring. A few days ago, Julia wrote to let us know that her buckling had scaled a big fence, only to land in the pig pen. Much to the amusement of the pigs and horror of the wee goat. All ended happily when Julia brought him into the house, bathed him and cuddled him by the fireplace. Not a bad ending, heh?
And now the ‘hello’ part begins. Just a few days after the goat yoga adventure, we had several (very noisy) does in heat so breeding officially began. Maddie, Cacophony, and Feta have all been bred. We’ll keep a close eye to see if they’ve caught. My goal this year is to spread the births out even more over the summer so that we have little ones right through. Let’s see if the goats will co-operate with that notion!
This weekend we have our Open House at Haute Goat. We’re delighted to be featuring some of the best goat cheeses in Canada, to be paired with Closson Chase wines. Keith Tyers, winemaker at CC will be here to sample the wines and cheeses for you and it’s well worth the trip. Amy from Old Mill Alpacas will have her gorgeous alpaca products here as will Angela from Centre and Main Chocolates in Warkworth. Angela has created an Haute Goat Hot Chocolate that will first be available here for the Open House! And the hot apple cider is on us.
We’re open right up until the holidays, then again in early January. We invite you to come to see this beautiful place in its winter finery. Take advantage of our 200 acres of trails and incredible views. We love when people come and share.
